Satou Tatsuhiro, a 22-year-old male, is a hikikomori and a NEET (Not in Employment, Education, or Training) (meaning acute social withdrawal). He feels that everything around him is a conspiracy, including why so many people, including himself, become hikikomori. As a result, Satou concocts a weird conspiracy scenario that incorporates the Nihon Hikikomori Ky? kai (NHK), a covert organization dedicated to creating a world full with hikikomori. Satou wants to escape the NHK's clutches, but he can't since it's too scary for him to walk outside by himself; that is, until he meets Misaki Nakahara, who chooses Satou for her "project" that she promises would cure him of his hikikomori tendencies.
