By the nineteenth century, humans had developed technology that allowed for the reanimation of corpses. Humans program the corpses to work as laborers in various jobs because they are unable to feel unique ideas or emotions. However, there is a catch to this wonderful technology. Science may be able to restore the capacity of corpses to move, but it cannot restore what every body loses at death: the soul. Doctor Victor Frankenstein, who vanished immediately after his groundbreaking work on corpse reanimation, is supposed to have resurrected the sole corpse with a soul.
