The narrative of the new film takes place in Okoya Forest, a Pokémon utopia protected by severe restrictions that prohibit outsiders from entering. The story revolves around Koko, a little kid who was raised by Pokémon and feels himself to be one, treating the Mythical Pokémon Zarude as his father. During a journey, Ash and Pikachu come across Koko. The concept of the film is a "human nurtured by Pokémon," as opposed to the previous films' theme of a "connection between a human trainer and their Pokémon."
